These high-end dining tables with leaves generally measure six feet long and extend to a length of 10 to 12 feet. Ten-foot length tables are considered standard size while tables measuring 12 feet or greater are known as large dining tables or extra large dining tables. A typical pedestal style mahogany dining room table rests upon two pedestals. Long dining room tables often sport a third pedestal for extra support. A 12-foot or 14-foot extra large dining table with three pedestals is called a triple pedestal table. Long dining tables, whether they use three pedestals or not, incorporate heavier pedestals and stronger slides than traditional dining table designs.

Most of the tables on this site are identified as Duncan Phyfe dining room tables because they feature fluted pedestals, a design created by their namesake, the master furniture craftsman Mr. Duncan Phyfe, over 100 years ago. The steel slides on most of our tables are made in America. They are very strong and help keep this formal dining room furniture exceptionally sturdy. If you need really large dining room tables, oversized tables measuring up to 16 feet can be found in our extra large dining tables category. This includes the elegant model LH 16, an American-made, extra long dining table of exceptional quality.

The industry standard finish on all dining tables is nitrocellulose lacquer. This type of lacquer is glossy, perfectly clear, durable and extremely scuff resistant. We believe it the best protection for your mahogany pedestal table.

Tables are generally 6 feet long and extend to 10-12 feet with leaves. A typical mahogany pedestal table will stand on two Duncan Phyfe pedestals.  10 foot tables are considered standard long dining room tables (rectangular )and 12 foot tables are banquet tables or extra long dining room tables.  Large dining tables like these may have a third pedestal for extra support.  Dining room tables with three pedestals are called triple pedestal tables.  Extra long dining tables, whether they have three pedestals or not, will have a heavier pedestals and stronger slides.  Most of the slides on our tables are American made and are made of steel. American slides are very strong

Our 48" round dining room table, 60" round dining table, 72" round dining table and 84" round dining table are all popular sizes. Most round formal dining tables stand on a single, heavy pedestal. The larger 84" round dining tables generally come in two pieces while our most popular 60" round dining tables feature five leaves and open to a spacious 10-foot oval shape.

A large round dining table with leaves that surround the outside is called a perimeter table. Perimeter tables are 60" round dining tables, encircled by banana shaped leaves to make them larger. Perimeter tables generally measure from five to seven feet in diameter with the leaves included. A round table with perimeter leaves is generally 60" round and goes to 80-84" with leaves. Leaves go around the outside of these tables and keep the shape round.
